A Tribute to Nicaraguan Mothers

In the 1940s, President General Anastasio Somoza Garcia declared Mother’s Day in honor of the birthday of his mother-in-law. Happy Mother’s Day to a few of my favorite Nicaraguan mothers.

“The only love that I really believe in is a mother’s love for her children.”
― Karl Lagerfeld

“But there’s a story behind everything. How a picture got on a wall. How a scar got on your face. Sometimes the stories are simple, and sometimes they are hard and heartbreaking. But behind all your stories is always your mother’s story, because hers is where yours begin.”
― Mitch Albom, For One More Day

“But kids don’t stay with you if you do it right. It’s the one job where, the better you are, the more surely you won’t be needed in the long run.”

― Barbara Kingsolver, Pigs in Heaven

― Chuck Palahniuk
IMG_5720“A mother’s body remembers her babies-the folds of soft flesh, the softly furred scalp against her nose. Each child has its own entreaties to body and soul.”
― Barbara Kingsolver
IMG_3900“I dream of giving birth to a child who will ask,
Mother, what was war?”
― Eve Merriam

― John Steinbeck, East of Eden

― Amit Ray

― John Irving, Until I Find You
